Thus, I appreciated Harris pausing for a moment and placing a dedication to Gillingham here. Often, we pass memorial parks or fields with a name attached to them, but we seldom find out much about the person behind the name. I will resist the temptation to reveal any details here so that the reader can see for themselves, but I would like to note the heartfelt tribute to Mary Gillingham. I want to see if the peregrine falcons remained within Cardiff City centre, or if I could have a go at spotting any Sea Lampreys near the River Taff.Īs a history fanatic, I was pleased that Harris imbued the documentation of his surroundings with some historical gems that surprised me, which meant that the book formed as more than just a nature or travel diary. Despite having travelled to Wales numerous times myself, I was left wanting to go and explore even more places that I had never heard of before.
